US health officials say coronavirus will likely cause a global pandemic:

“Current global circumstances suggest it’s likely this virus will cause a pandemic,” Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told reporters at a news briefing.

“It’s not so much a question of if this will happen any more, but rather more a question of when this will happen and how many people in this country will become infected and how many of those will develop severe or more complicated disease,” she added.

I think our life as we know it will not be the same – I just hope this country is taking proper precautions. They say everything is fine, yet the woman today was not around anyone with the virus, so that’s a big mystery how she got it.

      2. “I think our life as we know it will not be the same –” Agree, Linda. In my lifetime first it was in 2001 (9/11), now this virus. The governor of CA says that there are only 200 coronavirus kits for testing in THE WHOLE STATE! Can you imagine?! There is also this link that might interest you:

Hi Martha – I can remember the Hong Flu Pandemic … I had to Google it as I could not remember when it was, but knew it was not long after we moved to the States from Canada (we moved here in 1966, the Detroit Riots were in 1967 and the Hong Kong Flu was the following year). I have a link below of the worse Pandemics that I found when looking for the year. I can remember going with my parents to a local health department to get a shot as soon as the vaccine became available. I wonder if they will send people to a health department if a vaccine becomes available like back then? Back then, we had small drugstores, not big ones like CVS or Walgreens, which is where most people get their regular flu shots these days. Or the grocery store. It is scary the more I hear about it. I did hear the story you sent me on the news this morning. And, you know they are saying that people are using masks to be safe but I heard on the news or read that it is not good practice to wear them as most people do not know how to remove them without contaminating themselves. It is more than just the stock market tumbling – they are talking self-imposed quarantine conditions to keep from getting infected.

      4. I miss those small family owned pharmacies. The Black Plague was terrifying, considering that the world population was no more than 400 million people! Interesting data.

That was interesting Martha – I was looking at that chart and look at how much the world population is now going down!

I’m curious about your opinion, Doctor… Politicians in the US are already overreacting to the virus, saying the response to this outbreak that hasn’t happened yet, is less than the response to the Ebola outbreak.

Now, the reaction is partisan in nature, of course – meant to prey on the ignorant. Would you say that reaction is a little silly, simply based on the fact that the mortality rate for Ebola is 90% and that of COVID19 is just 2% (though, I assume COVID is easier to transmit based on airborne vs. fluid based for Ebola).
