There is no great secret to lose weight. Small portions, healthy delicious meals and daily physical activity, in other words: avoid sedentarism.

 

We all know that, right? But many people want that “miracle” diet that is going to make us lose a ton of pounds/kilograms in 5 or 10 days and never gain it -the weight- back! 

 

So, to have some fun, I have searched on the web for some crazy diets that people do. Some of them are really outrageously funny!

 

NOTE: I advice you NOT to follow any of these diets. I do not recommend them since they are not healthy and do not follow serious medical protocol research. This post is just for our weekend amusement.

 

CRAZY DIETS:

 

1. The Baby Food Diet
 

It replaces few of your food items with baby food (also means you poop like a baby). This one might seem easy, but trust me it’s like giving the taste of hell to your tongue. Having boiled, pureed veggies for 10 days without salt or any other spices can be a real tough task to perform. The things people do to lose weight!

2. The Beer and Sausage Diet

 

Call this the Tailgater’s Diet. Evo Terra, 44, an online exec in Tempe, Arizona, dropped from 195 to 177 pounds in 30 days consuming an average of about 1,500 calories a day—mostly from high-quality sausage and craft ale.

3. Miracle Diet

For this diet, one must consume only fruits for 2 days minimum. Also known as the Hollywood diet, this diet is all about making your body run on fruits or fruit juice for a span of 48 hours, minimum.

4. The Starbucks Diet

 

Stealing Jared’s strategy, Christine Hall, 66, a librarian from Alexandria, Virginia, lost more than 75 pounds over two years by eating only at Starbucks and sticking to about a 1,000-calorie per day diet. “Over time, scanning the calorie data helped me adjust my portion sizes,” she says.

5. The Eggs and Dessert Diet
 

You can have your cake and lose your gut too, a recent Tel Aviv University study found. People on 1,600 calories a day who ate a carb-and protein-rich breakfast that also included a dessert lost the same amount of weight (an average of 30 pounds over 4 months) as people on a low-carb diet (and no dessert).

SALMON RECIPE

Salmon fillets are gently poached and served with a sauce of tarragon, parsley and Dijon mustard. Ready in a mere 20 minutes it’s a great, healthy, mid-week meal. Serve with crisp potatoes.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Skinless fillets 2

  2. Tarragon 2 tbsp, chopped

  3. Flat-leaf parsley 2 tbsp, chopped

  4. 4.Dijon mustard 2 tsps

  5. White wine vinegar 2 tbsp

  6. Olive oil 2 tbsp

  7. Watercress or new potatoes to serve.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Bring a shallow pan of water to a simmer. Drop in the fillets, put a lid on the pan and cook for 5-6 minutes.

  2. Put all the other ingredients in a small food processor and whizz until smooth (if it’s too thick, add a splash of water).

  3. Lift the fillets up and drain.

  4. Serve the cooked fish with potatoes, watercress and the sauce.

OBESITY AND EATING DISORDERS INTRODUCTION

There is a classification about eating disorders in the American Medical Association (AMA), but obesity is not in it. Eating disorders are described as illnesses that are characterized by irregular eating habits and severe distress or concern about body weight or shape.

A.M.A. has recognized that being overweight or obese is a chronic disease and not simply due to poor self-control or a lack of will power. But A.M.A. has no legal-scientific worldwide authority to make this kind of decision.

Being a disease and/or an eating disorder has to be taken seriously, by the patients, their relatives and the medical doctors taking care of them. Obesity leads millions of people around the world to unwanted weight gain, and the roles that excess weight and fat maldistribution play in contributing to chronic diseases such as

  • Heart Disease

  • Diabetes,

  • Dyslipidemia,

  • Liver problems

  • Osteomuscular diseases,

  • Some types of cancer.

AVOID BASHING

Bashing overweight patient sufferers is not only ignorant but cruel. That is not the proper way to treat another human being.

Usually, any person who bullies another one about any issue, it’s because of fear and ignorance. In the health campaign against fat, we should avoid bashing obesity and idealizing thinness, which only fosters the self-destructive thought processes that characterizes eating disorders from anorexia to obesity.

Anorexics with jutting collarbones think they’re fat. Binge-eaters often think, after eating too much, that they’ve already done the damage so they might as well keep eating.

Apparently, people who overeat are not concerned about body weight or shape. Oh, but they are, they are just reacting in an opposite way to those who deprive themselves from food, like anorexic patients.

Severe obese people feel a lot of guilt after eating enormous amounts of food. They know they are hurting themselves but “there is something that doesn’t let me stop and all I want is to continue eating everything I see”-patients say often.

PREVENTION

Being overweight is the result of over-eating, of an obsession and addiction to eating big and low quality amounts of food. Tackling this problem when it starts is the best way to prevent morbid obesity,  which causes many medical problems and unhappiness to the ones suffering from it.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. A high BMI can be an indicator of high body fatness.

Dessert is  a happy food, and they can enlighten anyone’s mood and bring a smile to the face.

Eating excessive volumes of sweets is not good for our health. It can potentially lead to a range of health issues in the future. It doesn’t mean that they can’t be enjoyed in moderation. Take a bite of your favourite chocolate or ice cream.

Eating in moderation is not bad, and we can allow ourselves to have it at least once a week. Don’t deprive yourself, instead reward yourself with it occasionally.

For every 1 quart of water, add 4 tea bags or 1 tablespoon (8-10g) of loose leaf tea. Combine the water and tea into a resealable container and place in the fridge, steeping only for 5 hours for the best flavor. After 5 hours, remove the tea bags or strain.

If you want to sweeten your cold-brewed tea, make a simple syrup. This will allow the sugar to sweeten the tea rather than just collecting on the bottom of your cup.

Simple syrup: combine equal parts sugar and water (e.g. 1 cup water to 1 cup of sugar; yields about 1.5 cups of simple syrup) in a sauce pan, and heat on the stove until the sugar has dissolved completely. Let it cool, then add to taste to your tea. You can also get creative and add flavoring to the simple syrup by adding fresh herbs or other ingredients after the sugar has dissolved and you’ve removed the syrup from the stove. For example, you could add mint, rosemary, ginger, vanilla, or citrus peel. Let the extra ingredients steep in the syrup while the syrup cools, then remove (leaving in the flavoring ingredients will shorten the shelf life of the syrup).

Yummy Avocado Roasted Chickpea Taco Salad Recipe for a Healthy Summer 19

INGREDIENTS:

For the Roasted Chickpeas:

  • 1 (15 oz) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette:

  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 2 cups packed fresh cilantro leaves, stems removed
  • 1 large clove garlic
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup olive oil

For the Salad:

  • 4 corn tortillas
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • 6 cups chopped Romaine lettuce
  • 1 cup chopped red cabbage
  • 1 cup grape tomatoes, cut in half
  • 1 cup fresh corn kernels
  • 1 large avocado, pit removed and sliced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the drained chickpeas in a clean dishtowel. Remove chickpea skins and let the chickpeas dry for a few minutes.
  2. Place the chickpeas in medium bowl. In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, lime juice, and olive oil. Stir until chickpeas are well coated.
  3. Spread the chickpeas out in an even layer on a large baking sheet. Roast the chickpeas in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally. The chickpeas are done when they are dry and crispy on the outside. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  4. While the chickpeas are roasting, make the cilantro lime vinaigrette. In a blender or food processor, combine the shallot, cilantro, garlic, vinegar, lime juice, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Blend until smooth. Set aside.
  5. Turn the oven to 375 degrees F. Brush each side of the corn tortillas with olive oil. Cut the tortillas into 1/4-1/2″ strips. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Place tortilla strips on the baking sheet in an even layer. Bake until golden and crisp, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with salt, to taste. Set aside.
  6. To assemble the salad, place lettuce in a large salad bowl. Top the lettuce with red cabbage, tomatoes, corn, avocado slices, cilantro, spiced chickpeas, and baked tortilla strips. Drizzle the salad with cilantro lime vinaigrette and serve immediately.

My strawberries are thriving. They love the weather we are having in my neck of the woods and they ripe fast, so I am having tons of them everyday. It’s so much fun! This year I fertilized them naturally with leaves from my banana trees and other sustainable methods I have; maybe that’s why they are so happy.

I have so many that now I have to figure out a way to feed the family with them so no strawberry goes to waste. Well, my hens eat them when for some reason they go bad. Usually I eat them fresh right off the plant, in shakes, I make refreshing drinks, jam, popsicles, shortcake, and even salads.
