1. Rhinoceros horns and human fingernails have the same chemical composition. Those who unethically ingest powdered rhino horn for its perceived health benefits would do just as well to eat their own fingernails.
2. One noodle of spaghetti is technically called a “spaghetto.”And a singular cannoli is a cannolo.
3. Ready to enter the fruit matrix? Watermelon, eggplant, and chili peppers are all berries. Fruits that are not berries include STRAWBERRIES, BLACKBERRIES, AND RASPBERRIES. Well, now I’m furious! 😂 Science Facts!
4. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough… peanuts aren’t nuts.
5. The planet’s lightning storms convert its methane gas into carbon, which hardens into one of the most valuable substances on Earth as it falls. I WANT MY DIAMONDS!
Fear mongering Al Gore forecast in 2009 “the entire North ‘polarized’ cap will disappear in 5 years.”
Climate change, global warmings, cooling ages, all of them are real and have been for millions of years.
Science cannot be manipulated nor politicized.
Nature is queen, nature wins, hands down, all the time. You lie about nature, you get exposed as a liar. So, it is better that who ever talks about science is in fact a scientist, not a “believer”, or a social media troll or a political sold out guy or gal, like Al Gore and many others who do not know scientific facts and only have a false millionaire agenda behind them.
But Al Gore is not alone in his ignorance. There are millions of “heads” who talk non-sense, and I laugh when I read their speculations and accuse real scientists of “spreading fake news” or “conspiracy theories”.
I have real news for you: the ones spreading the lie that “global warming” is killing the planet earth in the next decade, are fools and ignorants.
It is always better to be on the side of science. “Believers” who cannot prove what they say, corrupt the minds of many and have them dancing at their whim. I feel sorry for people who just follow and admire what some “influencers” of social media say, without investigating scientific facts. I feel sorry for them because the manipulated “scientific” lie hurts them in many ways: mentally, socially, individually and in their family circle.
Powerful political, actors and actresses, business men and women who want you to “believe” in a factoid without having any proof, have in fact an agenda, a billionaire agenda, and the only ones making money are those who promote those false ideas.
I wish to live a long long life to see those hypocrite false-greedy people to come down their pedestal and prove them wrong. Al Gore is the first one to go. There are more and many others to come.

I was moved by her opinion and her pain of losing somebody in her family she really loved very much. So, as a medical doctor I do agree with several points she makes. She is of course referring to medical doctors in her country (US). I practice in Mexico and she actually praised some medical-biological scientists in Mexico City who, recently, discovered and developed a vaccine to cure the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
So, I left this comment
And I got a lot of people liking my opinion, for which I am sincerely pleased and grateful.
But still, there are some comments directed to me that I find totally cruel, inappropriate and ignorant. Like this one:
Among interesting people born on this day, I have to mention:
German engineer and engine designer, who invented the spray carburettor and was the chief designer of the first Mercedes automobiles (1900-01).
At age 26, he began designing cars with Gottlieb Daimler and Nikolaus Otto, with whom he developed the four-stroke engine cycle.
In April 1882, Maybach joined Gottlieb Daimler in a partnership to produce a light-weight, high-speed petrol engine suitable for vehicles.
Maybach invented the float-feed carburettor (1893) in which fuel was vaporized by passing it through a jet as a fine spray and mixed with air to produce a combustible mixture for the engine.
Maybach designed the first Mercedes car for Daimler in 1901, but retired in 1907 to design and manufacture engines for Zeppelin airships. His son, Karl Maybach, followed him in producing luxury automobiles.

IMPORTANT NOTE from Dr. Castro:
Please don’t assume that I am a Democrat or Republican just because I write or mention my admiration about certain people who are registered as such. I am neither. I hold no rigid political affiliation.
I admire the human being, no matter his/her political affiliation, religion or lack thereof.
I am a true freedom thinker who do not like labels. I don’t follow hypocrites. I admire what I think it’s admirable to me, and criticise what I sincerely think has to be denounced as a bad policy, error or a crime.
I don’t know if Neil deGrasse Tyson is a sexual harasser and a rapist or not. But there are serious accusations against him since the 1980’s by a woman named Tchiya Amet who says Tyson raped her and no one believed her.
Now there are three additional women, one for the first time, who say that Neil sexually harassed them. This isn’t looking good for the popular science entertainment personality.
He is under criminal investigation and I am not going to support him. No one with a little bit of gray matter would. But I understand that Facebookers are losing their capacity to think. Being in that short memory lack of respect social media platform damages people’s capacity to think logically. I pity the fool.
I don’t support the well-known astrophysicist, but I don’t accuse him either. I rather wait for the results of the investigation and then analyze how professional and truthful it was conducted by the detectives. I would, then, and only then, make an opinion.
After all, this famous (soon to be infamous?!) astrophysicist has become a very popular Hollywood figure and a sort of media cheerleader for science, instead of an actual scientist. He has forgotten to continue to study science and how to evolve as a real scientist, not a “tv scientist”.
Also he is stupid when talking about neuroscience, neurobiology and medical science.
This is how dumb Tyson is in his tweets. Come on, for an astrophysicist who praises himself as being “smart”, this kind of horrific mistake is just, well, pitiful.
On this day long ago, a child was born who, by age 30, would transform the world. Happy Birthday Isaac Newton b. Dec 25, 1642
With three women now making allegations on the record, the Patheos article spread far and wide, prompting Fox Broadcasting Company, which produces the show, and National Geographic, which airs it, to announce an official investigation. A spokesperson for the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, where Tyson has led the Hayden Planetarium for over 20 years, said that it has never received a complaint about him, but was also looking into the allegations.
On Saturday, Tyson released a 1,600-word statement on Facebook, confirming many of the details of Watson’s and Allers’ allegations, and apologizing for what he deemed clumsy displays of affection that had been misunderstood.
He also responded to Amet’s rape allegations, his only public acknowledgment of the claims in the four years since Amet first blogged about them. He said they had been friends in graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin, and had been “intimate” on a few occasions.
But he denied raping her. Noting her “odd” interests in New Age healing, he suggested she had a “false memory.” (Watson, Allers, and Amet have disputed much of Tyson’s statement. Tyson declined multiple requests to comment on this story.)
Now a fourth woman has told BuzzFeed News her experience of sexual harassment from Tyson. In January 2010, she recalled, she joined her then-boyfriend at a holiday party for employees of the American Museum of Natural History. Tyson, its most famous employee, drunkenly approached her, she said, making sexual jokes and propositioning her to join him alone in his office.
In a 2014 email shared with BuzzFeed News, she described the incident to her own employer in order to shoot down a proposed collaboration with Tyson.
Over the course of nearly three years, BuzzFeed News has spoken with more than 30 people for this story, including the alleged victims and their families, Cosmos crew members, and graduate students and professors who were at UT Austin 30 years ago. Dozens more from that time did not reply to requests for interviews.
Some people interviewed felt a bit sorry about the prospect that damaging allegations might take down the world’s most famous living scientist — and perhaps the most famous black scientist in history — liked for presenting himself as a less stuffy academic
This year 2018 has been marked by interesting discoveries and advances in different science fields. This list includes some that I find important enough to mention in this scientific closing post of the year:
THE ROSEHIP NEURON
“We don’t yet understand what these cells might be doing in the human brain, but their absence in the mouse points to how difficult it is to model human brain diseases in laboratory animals,” said co-lead author Dr. Gábor Tamás, a neuroscientist at the University of Szeged in Hungary. The results appear in the journal Nature Neuroscience
MEDICINE NOBEL PRIZE ON CANCER RESEARCH
Dr James P. Allison and Dr Tasuku Honjo discovery on T-Cells checkpoint in cancer research, makes history in the world of medicine and physiology. This is why they were awarded the Nobel Prize in these fields. Their work into the utilisation of the body’s immune system for fighting certain types of cancer could potentially save the lives of thousands around the world.
HARVESTING LETTUCE IN THE ANTARCTIC
German scientist Paul Zabel developed an artificial greenhouse that could make harvesting produce a reality for those in the Antarctic.
The greenhouse, which was installed and began producing early this year, is housed inside a climate-controlled shipping container. With LED lamps, an abundance of carbon dioxide and a nutrient-rich mist, the greenhouse can successfully grow produce without natural sunlight. Plant cultivation technologies
ANCIENT VIRUS RESPONSIBLE FOR HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS
An ancient virus infected humans long time ago. This invader left behind its genetic code in our DNA. This year, researchers found that snippets of that ancient viral DNA play a vital role in the communication among brain cells that’s required for higher-order thinking. The research reports that the virus planted its genetic print in the human cortex, eventually giving us our consciousness.
The Way To Levitating Humans
The study, published in thePhysical Review Letters, describes the new technique, which creates a tornado-like structure that is extremely loud but has a silent core.
The researchers found that when they changed the direction of the rapidly fluctuating acoustic vortices that make up this structure, they could control the rate of rotation and stabilise the tractor beam.
“In the demonstration detailed in the study, the engineers used ultrasonic waves at a pitch of 40kHz to make up the acoustic vortices. The structure’s silent core was able to hold a two-centimeter sphere made out of a synthetic polymer. The sphere is more than two times the size of the acoustic wavelengths, making it the largest object that’s been stably held in a tractor beam thus far” — Reports
The Catholic church and some of its followers believe in the myth that some saints and virgins have cried blood. They make statues of them with blood tears rolling down the faces made of ceramic or plaster.
Many catholics report sightings of weeping madonnas, from Ireland to Croatia, but the only one recognised by the Church is a statue of the Virgin Mary in the town of Siracusa in Sicily. It began weeping in 1953, so they say.
There is actually a symptom known as haemolacria, which is a rare condition that causes a person to producetears that are partially composed of blood. The condition hasgarnered significant attention in the medical community andmedia recently.
Haemolacria is a symptom of multiple diseases involvingthe conjunctiva and lacrimal system.
These entities can rangefrom vascular malformations and tumors to infectious or inflammatoryconditions and has even been reported in the literature as apresenting finding in scleral buckle infection.
I have no doubt that prevention is the best way to take care of our bodies: it prolongs our life span by avoiding diseases like trauma, infections, even diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks and others.
We must use our common sense and education in this matter in order to stay healthy. A proper way of eating, exercising regularly, including the ingestion of some natural products I don’t oppose, I even encourage some of my patients to take some vitamins, roots, seeds, depending on their needs and always guided by a reputable-scientific and well trained health provider.
The problem I have is with people who aren’t medical doctors and they create health organizations, write books, give conferences and sell vitamins and naturopathic “cures”. And in order to enhance their financial income they try to demean the science of medicine “…people all over the world have bought my books with terminal illnesses. I wrote a book about how to cure cancer, people around the world with terminal cancer buy my book, it costs 15 dollars, they go home and they cure their cancer”… quoting Raymond Francis at minute 15:29 in one of his conferences videos.
You can google him and find the video in YouTube. If you want the link to it send me an email or contact me and I will send you the link. I don’t feel like adding the link directly in this post because I don’t want to give more publicity to these fraudulent health practices.
Anyways, like him there are many others, and that is worrisome. They abuse their knowledge in selling, the desperation in terminal ill patients and the sincere desire of many to be healthy in order to sell them their products and “health conferences”. These quacks know how to convert very smart men and women into true believers on their quackery.
This person I mentioned above bases his talk criticizing medical doctors instead of telling us what kind of disease he had when he was 46 and supposedly he “cured” himself. If he is against the science of medicine then why does he relies so much on the World Medical Association statistics? He repeats himself a lot, sometimes he doesn’t finish his sentences, he mentions “his big four things” to be healthy and he mentions only 3, forgets number 4. Is he getting dementia?
The author of this video is worse than a not health professional, he has quack credentials:
Raymond Francis, DSc, MSc, RNC, is a doctor of naturopathy, a chemist and a graduate of MIT, and a registered nutrition consultant.
Naturopathy is the ultimate quackery, and RNC is not a legitimate nutrition certification, only RD is. Although, as quacks usually do, there are no real references to his sources, one can go beyond the ad hominem and analyze this:
“Cow milk contains the wrong proteins for human consumption. It is rich in proteins called caseins which are difficult for humans to digest. … These undigested proteins enter the lower intestines where they putrefy. This creates highly toxic by-products which poison us”.
This is abject nonsense that was popular in the nineteenth century but abandoned by medical science in the 1920s. Other things in the item are contradictory: the suggestion that milk is designed for infants but two-year olds show problems from drinking milk.
People have to educate themselves about fraudulent “health advisors” and their products. Learn the facts and share the based-science information with your loved ones.
Dr. Arnold, 62, an American professor of chemical engineering, bioengineering and biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, earned the award for her work with the She shared this year’s chemistry Nobel — worth close to $1 million — with George P. Smith, 77, and Gregory P. Winter, 67. Dr. Arnold received half of the prize, and Dr. Smith and Dr. Winter split the other half. Dr. Arnold won for her work conducting the directed evolution of enzymes, proteins that catalyze chemical reactions. She first pioneered the bioengineering method, which works similar to the way dog breeders mate specific dogs to bring out desired traits, in the early 1990s, and has refined it since then.
